Stabilizing the Economy in the Age of AI

Bridging the gap between technology adoption and institutional readiness.

Bridge under construction, a metaphor.

What’s the Problem?

Widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation threatens multiple industries with large-scale unemployment. This shift risks destabilizing our consumer-driven economy and intensifying income inequality.

The central issue is not the technology itself. The danger lies in the absence of governance frameworks capable of managing this rapid, large-scale change.

Why the current era is different: Unlike mechanical machines of the Industrial Revolution, AI functions on a cognitive plane that directly competes with human intelligence — making advanced computing far more disruptive.

Dual-Level Governance Solutions

Peaceful Governance Institute (PGI) ensures nothing is left unaddressed. We follow an effective dual-level strategy that simultaneously strengthens national systems and individual organizations. This approach is both top-down and bottom-up.

1. System Level (Macro-Governance) — Practical, Non-Prescriptive Guidance

PGI spearheads the development of evidence-based economic models, labor force transition metrics, and other tools for government agencies and international organizations. Our products will ensure administrative structures remain resilient amid rapid labor market disruptions.

2. Organization Level (Micro-Governance) — Support for a Smooth Transition

PGI provides conflict mediation, capacity-building programs, and other services to private companies and non-profit organizations. Our services will empower managers, workers, and unions to navigate workplace changes while balancing corporate profitability with human capital retention.

Supporting the Public Workforce System

Our work complements the U.S. Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Dislocated Worker Program. Most state and local workforce development boards operate with limited staff and constrained resources that already show strain to provide services to diverse populations in all neighborhoods — urban and rural. To support their work, PGI establishes partnerships with these organizations to strengthen their capacity in areas such as:

  • Analyzing automation-driven job losses.
  • Assisting laid-off employees displaced by AI.
  • Scaling up digital literacy trainings.

The initiative provides technical support to bolster their readiness to promptly respond to mass layoffs. Learn more about the WIOA program at the U.S. Department of Labor to understand the context of this initiative.

Frameworks Grounded in Evidence-based Research

The founding Executive Director leads this initiative, sharing his knowledge and over 25 years of experience supporting organizations worldwide. The following books provide examples of what to expect.

Public Service Information Technology Business Automation and Its Effect on the Labor Force

Public Service Information Technology (Routledge)
An objective manual for public administrators to audit, implement, and govern complex IT systems.

Business Automation and Its Effect on the Labor Force (Routledge)
A strategic framework enabling private and non-profit organizations to balance efficiency goals with workforce stability.

Compliance, Independent, and Unique

PGI’s independence as a 501(c)(3) enables us to serve as a trusted neutral, non-partisan convener and technical partner, rather than as an advocate for specific legislation. We serve as an educational and dispute-resolution resource for the public and private sectors. PGI brings a rare combination of conflict resolution expertise, good governance experience, and information technology fluency to bear in managing automation transitions. We can ensure that all stakeholders — industry, management, and labor — are listened to and that they’re satisfied with the results.
